Trey Yesavage delivered a performance for the ages and Davis Schneider launched a home run on the game's initial offering as the Blue Jays defeated the Dodgers 6–1 on Wednesday evening, moving within one victory of their first title since the 1993 season.

Yesavage's Historic Outing

The young Yesavage, who made his major league debut in September, fanned a dozen batters without a single walk – the first pitcher in World Series history to do so. The rookie right-hander surrendered just one run on three hits over seven frames. He began the year pitching before a few hundred fans in Class A ball, but has now been the winning pitcher in two of Toronto's three wins in this seven-game set.

Early Offensive Explosion

Toronto’s hitters gave him breathing room almost immediately. On the initial throw, Schneider turned on a 97mph fastball and sent it over the left-field fence. Immediately after, Vladimir Guerrero Jr homered as well to a similar location. It marked the unprecedented occurrence in the World Series that consecutive home runs opened a game, shocking the spectators before most had found their seats.

The Pitcher's Dominance

Yesavage then assumed command. He fanned five in a row between the second and third innings, breaking a rookie pitching record before the streak was snapped by Kiké Hernández with a home run in the bottom of the third to make it two to one. That was as close as Los Angeles would get.

Extending the Lead

In the fourth inning, Varsho lined a triple into the right-field corner after a misplay, and Ernie Clement hit a sac fly to score him for a three to one lead. The Dodgers’ offensive struggles deepened from there. After a six-run output in an 18-inning game, they’ve scored a mere four times in nearly 30 innings.

Late Inning Insurance

The starting pitcher battled through six and two-thirds innings but was chased in the seventh after the Blue Jays loaded the bases. Both runners he left behind came around to score – one on a wild pitch and another on an RBI single – to push the lead to four runs. A hit in the eighth provided the concluding score.

Bullpen Secures the Win

Yesavage was cheered off the field from the traveling fans, and the pen closed it out. The late-inning pitchers each tossed a shutout frame to secure the victory, fanning three batters collectively while maintaining the stellar start.

Dodgers' Lineup Shuffle Falters

The Dodgers, who adjusted their lineup in hopes of igniting the offense, again found little traction. Their top hitter went hitless in four at-bats and is now riding an 0-for-7 skid since setting a World Series on-base record in Game 3.

On the Verge of a Championship

Now up 3–2, Toronto return home with two opportunities to win it all. Game 6 is Friday night at Rogers Centre.
